Farmers Branch

Historic Farmers Branch

To those new to the area, Farmers Branch is 12 miles north of Downtown Dallas and has easy access to all that North Texas has to offer. Farmers Branch was originally named Mustang Branch and was part of Peter’s Colony.  The name was later changed to Farmers Branch in recognition of the areas’ fertile land. Farmers Branch was the most widely recognized Texas town in Europe.  This was due in large part to the advertising and promotion of Farmers Branch as a great area to farm and live.

Upon arrival, settlers were beset by Native American Indian raids on their pumpkin patches and wild animals from which they had little protection. In 1874, settlers allowed the railroads right of way through their land in order to motivate the railroad company to establish routs through Farmers Branch.  This in turn helped this small enclave of farms to grow into a bustling town.  The railroad also made the first local cotton gin a reality which further expanded the growth of Farmers Branch as a major player in the cotton production business.  By World War I, Farmers Branch became a hub for grain and cotton shipments bringing with it a business and commerce.

Because of Farmers Branch’s proximity to Downtown Dallas, the area grew at a fast pace. Today, Farmers Branch is home to major manufacturing companies producing a variety of products including manufacture of cosmetics.  The number of business exceed in Farmers Branch exceed 40,000 and growing. All said, Farmers Branch is small in area but big on opportunity and quality of life
